Ministers' Coalition

The Ministers' Coalition are servant leaders who are given their different tasks by the pastor. At his discretion, they are asked to perform pastoral responsibilities as needed, which include: preaching, teaching, lead worship services, altar worker, weddings, and funerals. They are also assigned to various ministries in the Church as an advisor or liaison.

Scripture Reference: 2 Chronicles 35:2 (NIV): “He appointed the priests to their duties and encouraged them in the service of the Lord’s temple.”

Deaconess

Our deaconesses, along with the deacons, have jurisdiction over the preparation and serving of the Holy Communion. Under supervision of the pastor and the deacons, prepare linen, secure bread and wine, and prepare the table on each Holy Communion Sunday before worship begins; keep same clean and presentable. The deaconesses have charge of the baptismal robes and assist in the baptismal services. They, along with the deacons, submit the names of candidates for baptismal certificates to the church administrative office.

The deaconesses are responsible for visiting and caring for the sick and shut-in members of the congregation, along with deacons and other church members. They minister to the spiritual growth and needs of other female members of the congregation in general. Our deaconesses also assist in the Deacon Family Ministry.

Deacons

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who is highly praised and worshipped at Ebenezer Baptist Church. We the Board of Deacons at Ebenezer invite you, your family, and friends to attend our church where we praise, sing, teach, and worship in the name of Jesus.

At Ebenezer, our Diaconate consists of the Board of Deacons and Deaconesses who, in partnership with our pastor and clergy, act as servants to the membership of the church and to the community. One way we serve and reach out to our membership is through the Family Ministry.

Each family is assigned a deacon who, in turn, is directly responsible to minister to that family both morally and spiritually. This may be achieved by, but is not limited to, personal visits, coordinating, praying, directing, recognizing special events, telephone calls, caring, and through reconciliation.

The main purpose of such interactions is to build a stronger relationship with God; to proclaim the gospel to believers and unbelievers, and to care for the membership and others in the community. Our goal is to lead the church to the achievement of its mission of saving souls.

It is our prayer that you join us for any of our services and we solicit your prayers and support to become a servant to you and your family.

Christian Education Ministries

The Christian Education ministry is led by the first lady of the church and includes the following:

Christian Education
Children's Church - The purpose of the Children’s Church is to encourage and teach children how to develop a personal relationship with God and to help them strive for righteous living by studying the word of God. It is our mission and/or objective to teach our children God’s Holy Word. This will be accomplished by sharing the importance of God’s word and His plan of salvation through Jesus Christ. “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children.” Deuteronomy 6:6, 7a. A sample of our ministry’s past activities is studying what it means to obey God and his Holy Word, having fun with crafts that relate to our Lord and Savior, and a time of giving back to God.

Seniors Ministry

Using the wisdom and spiritual knowledge gained through maturing in age, the Seniors promote unity and harmonious fellowship in the body of Christ and the community. The ministry addresses the importance of prayer and fellowship in the golden years. Each month members visit the sick and shut-in. Regular activities are planned that are educational, spiritually enlightening, and fun. The Senior's Ministry reaches out to minister in whatever area the Holy Spirit will lead to make another's life rich in Christ.

"I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or the children begging bread." Psalms 37: 27

Laymen's Ministry "Fisher's of Men"

The Fisher's Of Men (Matthew 4:19) is a spiritually based fellowship of men who are driven to reach out to other men who are lost or unchurched. Prayer, Outreach, Leadership, and Evangelism is the mission of this life-changing ministry. Several activities are presented each year in order to bring the men into closer relationship with each other, thereby learning from each other's life experiences in order to better understand their role in the kingdom and in the home. Monthly meetings are also held to share the Word of God, finding strategies to win the man who is without Christ.

Hospitality

The Hospitality ministry plans, prepares and serves refreshments and repasts for special programs, events and funerals in the church. The ministry displays a caring spirit to those who render service to the church (2 Corinthians 8:4).

Word Alive Drama Ministry

Word Alive plays an important part in relating the Word of God to all ages. It helps to bring the Word alive through demonstration. This ministry brings reality to the different life situations that can be changed, if one will follow the guidelines of the Bible.
(Romans 12: 1 & 2)

Standing in the Gap Ministry of Intercession

Standing in the gap is a time for intercessors to come together to pray for the needs of the leadership, the body of believers, and needs of the community. It embraces all who will come for prayer, be it salvation, healing, or deliverance (John 17:1-26). Whatever the Lord has placed on the heart of the intercessor to pray is the desire of the group. Prayer changes things. Prayer changes people. The intercessor strives to know the heart of God, and the needs are met through prayer.

Armor Bearers

Members of this ministry assist the pastor and his wife in reaching members who are bereaved or need encouragement. They also provide assistance and care directly to the pastor and his wife. Ministry members ensure that members experiencing loss or are in a time of need have access to assistance and are aware that the pastor and his wife are thinking of and praying for them. In addition, this ministry provides members with an opportunity to acknowledge pastor and his wife for their years of service to the church

Philippians 2:4: "Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others."

Standard Bearer's Banner Ministry

Standard Bearers Banner Ministry lifts up the standard of Christ in the beautification of the sanctuary and other rooms in the church. The banners are symbols of praise and of worship to God (Psalm 20:5). It reminds the worshipper that Jehovah Nissi (The Lord Our Banner) is always present; and in Him we are victorious, lifting up our banners in the name of our God.

The Puppet Ministry

The EBC Puppet Ministry, working as an evangelistic team, seeks to reach and teach the gospel through the simplicity of puppetry.  Our bible basis is Matthew 28:20, “Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you and, lo I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

Puppets are a tool for evangelism.  Through this means the gospel is presented in such a way as to gain the attention of children as well as adults.  Hearers become knowledgeable of God’s truths and gain understanding.  The body of Christ is edified and built up, the lost are won to Christ, and Jesus is glorified.

The Puppet Ministry is an outreach into the local community as well as our home church.  Representative samples of ministry activities are ministry in nursing homes, community centers, parks, community churches, the Juvenile Detention Center in Newport News, and children’s church on a regular basis.

Ministry’s Chairperson is Minister Ruth Williams and ministry meetings are held the first Saturday of each month at 10:00 a.m.

Steps of Grace Dance Ministry

The dance ministry opens the door to all who love to praise Him in dance, (Psalm 150). Steps of His Grace shows forth God's Glory through His creation, through creativity in dance. It enhances the worship by helping the worshiper to see how one expresses love to God in a creative manner - the dance.

Ushers/Greeters Ministry

The ushers and greeters are very important in the ministry. They are the first to welcome visitors in the House of God. The usher and greeter stand watch at the door (Psalm 84:10), with an excitement of serving God's people in any way possible. The greeters serve to welcome newcomers that visit the church. They establish a link to the body of worshippers and extend a warm and friendly welcome in the name of the Lord on behalf of the minister. The greeter then presents the visitor with a book mark, which contains information about church services.

Kitchen Ministry

Members of this ministry coordinate the organization of the kitchen to ensure its operation is orderly and adequately equipped with supplies in order to provide service for all occasions. They work together to accommodate and meet the needs for any church function involving utilization of the kitchen. The Kitchen Ministry plans, prepares, and serves refreshments and repasts for special programs, events, and funerals in the church.

Romans 8:28: "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose."

Sunday School

We strive to enhance awareness and obedience to the word of God. Studies are necessary for spiritual growth. First you must know the word of God before you can follow it.

Worship Support Ministry

The Worship Support Ministry assists the Pastor with organizing worship service in whatever area is needed. They also aid in ushering in the Spirit of God while leading the congregation into worship through praise (Psalm 150).

Music

The purpose of the Music Ministry is to create an atmosphere where the believer is allowed their fullest expression of worship and praise in song. The EBC Music Ministry has been given the gift of singing God’s gospel. Oh what a joy to sing God’s praises and allow His anointing to flow through His melodious spirit! God’s gospel puts it this way, “Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.” Ephesians 5:19.
